 About Goat-info.com

After I took the plunge and married my wife, the next logical step in my little mind was a goat.  I had never had a goat and neither had my wife, so we found this older gentleman (Larry J.) who had a rather large herd of miniature goats.  We went to visit, picked out a buck, brought him home.  We were off and running!  Soon we had taken in a couple more and bought some more, and more and more, and well you get the idea.
It wasn't long and we started having issues.  We killed our first buck due to urinary calculi.  We learned a lesson there and started doing our research.  We started talking to our breeder friend Larry and other locals who had goats.  What we found was 2 kinds of goat people.  First type is what I call the "don't know squat I just have goats" type.  Second type is what I call the "I don't have time for you" type.  obviously neither type was useful to us.  We did however, find a couple of very helpful friends online.  Who were willing to give us very helpful advise as well as take those "late night" phone calls to help us along in our quest for healthy, happy goats, and a thirst for knowledge about our goats.
Finally, after many mistakes, constant research, and "a little help from our friends" we were figuring this thing out.  One night my wife and I were talking and we decided that we would share our knowledge with anyone who wanted it, regardless of whether or not they had bought a goat from us, regardless of the number of goats they had, regardless of breed or quality of the goats they had.

After a few years of raising "grade miniature goats" (unregistered), we decided to start breeding registered Nigerian Dwarf goats.  This was more up front cost, but the payoff was much more than I had ever imagined.  Yes, financially it was a better payoff, but also the payoff quickly started showing up in the show ring, not only for us but our customers as well.  Just a couple of years ago we sold a wether to a family who decided to show at the NDGA national show as their debut to the show world.  Their young daughter who had never shown a goat before walked into the ring (with a few pointers before hand of course) and absolutely took the ring by storm!  We were so excited and of course the girl was way more excited than we were.  What a honor to be apart of a young goat keeper getting her feet firmly planted in the goat world.  Win, lose or draw we are definitely hooked on showing our goats, helping others who want to show goats, and promoting the Nigerian Dwarf.  It is our goal as Nigerian Dwarf breeders to improve the breed, promote the breed, and preserve the breed.
